Daviess County was formed out of Ohio County on June 1, 1815. The Daviess County Fiscal Court created a volunteer Bicentennial Committee to plan a year-long 200th birthday celebration. Please click the Events tab at the top of the page to see what is being planned.
The Committee also published the first history of the rural areas of the county since 1883 so be sure to order your copy or you may purchase from these locations: Owensboro Museum of Science and History, Danhauer Drugs, Owensboro Antique Mall, Moonlite BBQ, Owensboro-Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, and The Baker’s Rack. The Committee is still collecting pictures to scan and save for future generations and conducting oral interviews with citizens to record their first-hand accounts of Daviess County from decades ago. Please browse the site and if you have an idea for an event, historical information you would like to make us aware of, a person you would like us to interview for our oral history project, have a historic picture to send us, or want to volunteer to help our events be successful, please contact us.
